With Duncan Stevens, behavioural psychologist, keynote speaker and best-selling author

OUTCOME 1
Attention that held
Everyone stayed focused on Duncan’s keynote from start to finish and left keen to hear him speak again soon.
OUTCOME 2
Influence, in practice
People began to see influence as a craft anyone can practise, not a gift reserved for a few natural talkers.
OUTCOME 3
Skills for the pitch
Straightforward techniques they could put to work in client meetings, negotiations and everyday conversations.
THE CHALLENGE
Eversheds Sutherland wanted a keynote that would hold a room of busy lawyers and sharpen how they influence.
Lawyers earn their keep by persuading: clients, counterparties, regulators and each other, often against the clock. When Eversheds Sutherland planned an event for its people, that was the pressure in the room, and attention was in short supply.
A partner at the firm asked Duncan to speak on influence and persuasion. The brief was simple: keep everyone focused, make the ideas practical and leave the team with techniques they’d want to use the next day.
DUNCAN’S SOLUTION
A tailored influence keynote built on behavioural psychology, live demonstrations and techniques lawyers could use.
Duncan started by talking with the organisers about who’d be in the room, how the firm’s people work with clients and colleagues, and where influence matters most for them.
He shaped a 40-minute keynote around his influence techniques, using on-stage behavioural psychology demonstrations to show each principle at work. Every technique came with a practical way to use it in a client meeting, a negotiation or a team conversation, and the pace stayed lively enough to hold the whole room.
THE RESULT
A team that stayed with Duncan to the end and left wanting more of his events.
Mostafa Ihab, a Partner at the firm, said Duncan held everyone’s focus throughout the session and described his influence techniques as out of this world. He’s looking forward to attending more of Duncan’s events. In the survey, 97% of the team said they’d recommend Duncan.
The audience survey below shows how the session landed with the people in the room.

THOUGHTS FROM DUNCAN
Busy professionals give their attention to whoever makes it worth their while.
Lawyers hear arguments all day, so I never assume they’ll hand me their attention for free. I earn it first, then show how influence really works: understand what matters to the other person, build trust and make the ask easy to say yes to. Techniques stick when people can picture using them in their very next meeting.
The Eversheds Sutherland team was sharp, focused and generous with their attention, and I’d love to work with them again.
