The city of Nassau practically dominates the entire island of the Bahamas including Paradise Island which sits just of the coast, the residential population of about 200k is mostly made up of the descendant of freed British slaves from when the practice was abolished by the empire in the early 1800s – however, the group of the island has been traditionally known as the home of pirates going back hundreds of years. It’s worth noting that the city has a definite wet-dry season cycle, so between July and September it will be raining for most of your trip; that said the beaches are stunning and well worth the visit most of the rest of the year – with many tourists choosing to stay in the Cable Beach area.
